Rich Pictures

A "rich picture" is a more informal type of notation that can be used in conjunction with RADs to map the processes. It may well be that as part of your observation, you get into the habit of creating these 'informal' drawings which can later be expanded as necessary.

As with RADs the idea behind a "rich picture" is primarily one of notation and communication.

This picture can be used to confirm the findings from your observation, and used as evidence in your final report.

Also, it can be useful working document - i.e. you can add to it as more information becomes available.

An example from a case study is available here.
